My neighbor Mike was badly injured in Iraq 4 years ago by an IED. He should not have survived, but somehow he did. I believe he said that he was the only one in his unit who did. They finally retired him medically last year. I think he had 26 years of faithful service in. His wife Peggy has 20 years in and just re-enlisted for another 4 years. Good people.
Poor Mike had a hard time putting out his flags this year because the ground was really parched and hard. He finally managed it. He puts out hundreds of US and POW flags. They go all around the border of his property. He does this on every Patriotic holiday. This is in addition to his flag pole.

Of course I have my flag out... the one Mike has lovingly replaced for me every year so it is always pristine. He disposes of the old flags as per proper flag protocol.
Mike may be retired, but he still loves our country and our flag. I am proud to know him. I am grateful for every man and woman who has served and for those who continue to serve. Men like Mike. Women like Peggy. And men like Sarge and my Dad. Where would we be without them?
Remember to honor our fallen soldiers and their families who sacrificed so much that we may enjoy our freedom. It comes with a price, one that we can never repay.
Enjoy today's trip around the sun! I know I will! Big Hugs ♥xo
