I just love mornings at the Swamp. It's so beautiful and so peaceful.
So. Blogger is still having comment hiccups. I was either getting Service Unavailable, or no word showing on the sites that have Word Verification, or "We're sorry, but we were unable to complete your request", or some other silly error message. People were split fairly evenly on whether or not they like the Disqus commenting system. Mostly it's the "newness" of it people seem to dislike. So...
"Off with its head!"
Speaking of heads, I came thisclose to chopping off my hair myself yesterday. Honestly, I don't think I'm going to be able to stick it out. Letting it grow out sounds like a fine idea when you first start out. However, after about 2 months it seems that no matter what I do to it, it looks just awful and it won't stay in place. It's just a horrible brown mop right now! I need a cute little haircut that's easy and quick and also does what its told!
I feel badly for all the northerners in the midst of this heat wave. I was talking with my BIL last night and he surprised me when he said his neighbor still did not have air conditioning. I can not imagine. Well, yes I can. When I first moved to Florida in April of 1975 my then-husband (now-Ex) and I bought a house with no air conditioning. We remedied that as soon as we could! I still have vivid memories of laying on the bed with my arms and legs not touching me and begging God to let me fall asleep so I wouldn't be so hot and miserable!
Ugh.
One of the things I love most about the Swamp is that its beauty is self-sustaining. Other than picking up pine cones and mowing, everything just grows and blooms. AL & Mike are giving me a hard time because I warned them that the plants my Dad brought over from the Yellow house and some new ones he planted after we moved here were all going to die when my parents left for 2 months. Mike keeps saying, 'but you're really going to water them, aren't you, Barb?" and I keep saying, "No, Mike. They're gonna die!" Well guess what? The other day Al was here and I caught him watering the plants. Then later that day Mike was over here watering them. Then later still, it rained. Guess what? They're gonna die... by drowning! hahahaha!
Well, that's all I know today. Enjoy today's trip around the sun! I know I will! Big Hugs ♥xo

Beautiful morning light! We, too, feel sorry for the northerners and the heat!
For you ... the swamp, for me ... the foothills at the southern entrance to Yosemite. I'll give you that it has been hot in Oakhurst this week, but I'm up another 300 to 400 ft and surrounded by trees. 90 in town, 85 for me, and I have no a/c. I do have a swamp cooler and run it maybe 3 or 4 times a summer. A biggie for me is that it cools down in the evening and is cool in the mornings. Turn the shades on whichever side the sun is during the day and the house naturally keeps its cool. Just one of the reasons I moved to the mountains.
what a beautiful photo! It is hot here in MD--only promises to be a few degrees cooler today :(
beautiful shot barb! the swamp is lovely for sure.
i can remember as a child with no a/c in baltimore where it becomes the hottest place on earth for three hours a day in the summer, i'd wet a bathcloth and fan it over me. put it on my forehead. when it got hot i'd fan it around again. silly little girl but it kept me a bit cooler.
i do love the heat though.

I can't imagine not having air conditioning. We don't have it on the boat if we are at the island, and that's been a challenge from time to time, but I want my air conditioner.
I do the same thing with my hair and I've got a deal with my stylist that if I even suggest letting my hair grow that she is just to ignore that request. I can so relate.
I see you aren't much for watering the plants. Made me chuckle out loud.
Love the photograph.
Have a terrific day and weekend. Big hug and lotsa lovies to all the babies. :)
Maybe if I put on some ruby slippers and click my heels together I can somehow magically be transported to the swamp. It is so beautiful.
We live in the desert and have temps over 110 and as high as 117 and we have never, ever had a bill like yours. Can you call your provider and have them come out and give you an energy audit? Something is not right. Of course your bill could be wrong. I once got an electric bill for $1,600. I called and told them it was wrong. They said it was right. After much investigation, the company admitted its mistake.
Ceiling fans help tremendously to lower our AC cost. When I keep them on, I can set the temp much higher and it stays much cooler and my AC unit runs less.
My parents don't have air conditioning either, and I worry about them. They are in Colorado, so part of the year it doesn't matter, but summers can get miserably hot.
The swamp looks lovely. But I bet I would spend more time gazing at Whitey. ;)
I grew up without AC, too. Now I can't imagine life without it... I'm so heat adverse...
That is a gorgeous picture. I'm a refugee from Tallahassee myself (now in NC). Hate the heat and the humidity. I love the snow!
What a beautiful picture. Purple trees. Wonderful.

Love that photo Barb! Hope you get through the hair thing too - I know exactly how you feel but the torture is worth it!
Your place is magical to me. I'd love to be able to sit outside with my coffee or soda and just watch...
We bought a cooler to use here because we were lucky enough to have the "smart" meters installed. Well, they're not. Our summer bills last year were horrendous! So far, the cooler is working very well, but it's been relatively cool - in the 90's. And we have extremely low humidity...
Water those plants!
~~~Blessings~~`
What a gorgeous picture!
I love your thoughts on the swamp. You are dead on. Swamp is not a word that conjures images of beauty, but it's all right there, and it's gorgeous.
Hair. I tried to grow mine out several times over the past few years. I am just a short-haired person. Thank God I found my old hair dresser on facebook!
Take care.
We don't have AC. It just doesn't make sense for the week or so of hot temps we get. We manage to keep cool in other ways.
I like mornings here in the pacific northwest because they are crisp and cool, even during a mini heat way.
My brother went and got my Mom another air conditioner..she keep burning them up in her house fires.. Beautiful photo...sigh
