The Swamp - because Babs asked twice!

Babs asked to know more about my beloved Swamp - twice! No, Babs. It is NOT a deep, dark scary place that will swallow you up and pull you in! What is it then? I think the words which best describe the Swamp for me are; tranquility, unspoiled nature, wildlife and peaceful.

The reaction I see most often from friends and family visiting for the first time has been "Wow, this is a secret little hideaway tucked into the heart of town." Yes. It is that. This particular swamp is too small to be given a name - approximately 15 acres. It is a protected wetland. It sits directly in my backyard. My house sits at the very end of the cul-de-sac on 2 acres of about 4 dozen tall Georgia Pines and a bunch of Cypress trees. There are also some Dogwoods and Azaleas and a few other trees whose names I do not yet know. It is dripping with Spanish Moss and south Georgia charm. The best news for me is that my view can never be ruined by more houses being built because it is WET!

The Swamp has all sorts of wildlife including Beavers, Red-tailed Hawks, Egrets, Blue Heron, Raccoons, Red-Eared Slider Turtles, Turkey Vultures, Canada Geese during Spring and Summer and dozens and dozens of species of birds that serenade me constantly.

I've taken thousands of photos and written many a haiku about the Swamp. I'm re-posting a few of them for you.

You left off mosquitoes in your list of creatures!

This is such a magical place. I can see why you love it so much. I would, too. I really, really want to see it. Some day.

Big hugs...

wow! I did enjoy the tour. What a lovely environment.

I like your poetry, Barb. I need to try my hand at Haiku one of these days.

Have a great Thursday!

That is so peaceful. How rich you are to have all of that nature around!

Exquisite - the swamp is alive yet so peaceful.

"...at the very end of the cul-de-sac..." It's hard to believe you could have neighbors nearby.

Thank you so much for answering me. It certainly is very beautiful! I would never want to leave a place like that. You are blessed.

I had always seen swamps in the old films, swallowing people and horses up and had never really thought past that, until your blog :)

P.S. I've just gone through all the photos again. I'm glad I asked twice :) Thank you again!

I would love to live where you live. No rude neighbors that only think of themselves. Leave their dogs out to bark all day long every single day. I would love living there and having you as a neighbor.

Have a terrific day Barb. Big hug to you and lotsa lovies to the babies. :)

I'm not a swamp kind of person, but it's clear from your photography and poetry that you love it. It's good to find a place to love and enjoy.

Wow, that swamp is cool. We are surrounded by 79 acres of natural prairie (not our land), and the wildlife can be a little scary for me.

I don't think I would know what the internets were if I lived there. It is absolutely breathtaking. And baby geese!
