Savannah, Georgia's First City, sits on the banks of the Savannah River. This is a statue of Florence Martus, known as the Waving Girl. She welcomed ships coming into Savannah's port for more than 40 years.

As their web site will tell you "We're more friendly than formal here in Savannah. Whoever you are, wherever you're from, we'll welcome you with true Southern hospitality, just as we've been welcoming guests since 1733. Hip and historic, robust and refined, Savannah is where you'll find amazing architecture, spooky cemeteries and rich history—along with global sophistication, funky nightlife and fabulous food."
And how! Savannah is one of my favorite cities! Savannah has 21 Squares, some of the most gorgeous common areas gracefully lined with Live Oak trees. For instance, Chippewa Square was made famous by the movie "Forrest Gump". You know that bench he sat on while waiting for the bus as he told his story? It's in Chippewa Square!
If it is your first time, I recommend jumping on board one of the Trolley Tours to get an idea of the places you'd really like to explore. There are more than 50 tour companies to choose from!
You may also choose a romantic Horse-drawn Carriage Tour!
There are many grand mansions, Bed & Breakfasts and Inns, haunted cemeteries, cobblestone streets, 8 styles of architecture, glorious park fountains, wonderful ironworks, grand churches of every faith, Factor's Walk, City Market, Telfair Museum of Arts and Science (the oldest museum in the south!), Historic River Street, and a bounty of antiques shops and boutiques, and dining of every kind!
Did I mention the fabulous Squares and magnificent Live Oak trees?
If you can't find something to love about Savannah, it's sure not their fault!

Beautiful shots of Savannah. I love live oaks. There is something so extraordinary to me about them.
Love all shots! Interesting and scenic! But I think my favourite must be the one of the Waving Girl! A very different piece of sculpture!
I haven't been to Savannah in years. Your photos make me think I should plan a trip!
Gorgeous images and wonderful info!
I knew nothing of this area until today. How beautiful it looks.
Seems like I read that about Forrest Gump. Weren't the scenes of him and his boat also filmed near there somewhere?
In all the times I've been to and through Georgia, I don't believe I've ever made it to Savannah... I should rectify that!
I wanted to try hoptouring/sightseeing...Savannah is surely a perfect place to go but I'd enjoy walking in a clean and friendly neighborhood as yours.
Oh, what lovely memories for me! I spent several days in Savannah a number of years ago and was enchanted with the city and it's people! Thank you so much! I'll definitely be back to visit and stir up some more old memories!
Oh Boy, Barb, I'd love to get a chance to visit Savannah! Every since I read "Midnight in the Garden...," I've thought about visiting that city! :) Great My World post!
You should work for the Savannah Tourist Bureau (or whatever you call it there). Sounds like a bustling city!

I love those live oaks, they are so majestic and beautiful.
I'd love to see Savannah. Remember reading "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and it sounds like an amazing city. That statue is cool and that square beautiful as well. Thanks for sharing!
Seriously this is one of the cities I wanted to see and visit. Aside from the trolley tour, I thought I would enjoy walking around town and gawking at everything.
from your post and the comments here, i could tell that savannah indeed is a charming place. thank you for sharing these lovely, lovely set of photos.
Beautiful. We really enjoyed our visit to Savannah a few years back. My husband is planning another trip to do research for his dissertation.
Those live oak trees are truly special. Great post, Barb.
I love Savannah! I have traveled through on my way to Hilton Head for over 30 years. As a child, my favorite restaurant was the Pirates House.
I love the moss hanging fom the trees.
Wonderful post that just confirms what I have always heard about Savannah
Awesome place! It looks like St.Augustine, Florida. It seems like an old Spanish city, Europe.
Have a good vote for your elections.
Thanks for the tour - I love taking carriage rides to see the city. I'd also like to take one of those live oaks home with me. They're beautiful.
Savannah is a gorgeous city and I just love it. As you wrote, the squares are beautiful and just make walking around so pleasurable. I love the Riverwalk with its cobblestones. As a Georgia girl far from home, it makes me wanna hop a plane and drop in again. Thanks for the photos :)
Oh i would love to come and visit that, i have always been intrigued with that part of the country.
Must sell the motel so we can hit the road and explore
I like it already, lovely photos :)
I have always heard Savannah is beautiful!

Hi Barb (Will) -- I was just checking to see if I had been missing you (except on Sunday) with Ruby Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, or Skywatch. You aren't doing any of those any more it seems. I was glad to see you read Fred's blog.
I have not been to Savanah but it is on our list of places to go. Mrs. Jim has relatives in Georgia that we need to go see.
Our neighbor lady (Mrs. Roger) is from there originally.
..
Too bad it isn't Charleston:

I'm glad you read Fred's blog, too. :)
Nice pictures - Savannah is a charming city that is so unlike most U.S. cities. I was there for a week attending a seminar and had the fortune to be able to sample some of the scenery and fine food. Too bad I wasn't blogging back then.
I've always thought that Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. It's on my list of must see cities when I finally begin to travel.
What a beautiful city and so different from NY state...and no snow...LOL...
I would come visit tomorrow if I could :o) It's beautiful!
I've been wanting to go to Savannah to see the "Midnight..." tour after reading the book/seeing the movie. Now I really want to! :)
I've heard a lot of good things about Savannah (and seen so many great photos), I'd love to visit sometime.
Oh I've been and it is one of the most stunning cities anywhere in the world!!:-)))
love the squares and the trees...did i say i love those trees.
great photo collage.
I live in Savannah cause of my husband. I'm not so fond of the place actually. I tell my husband the air perpetually smells like frog farts (the marsh). The first time I went to River Street I twisted my ankle on the cobblestone. Of course, my dislike of the city may revolve around the fact that my neighbor shot his wife in my front yard. -shudder-
Love your photos. Makes me want to visit. Please consider posting on www.newquestcity.com or www.infignos.com
