See the bark? It's sort of reddish and looks a bit like papery-layers. A bit like reddish desert camouflage!

As a followup to the previous post, I never occurred to me that the 'make a baby thing-y' would be "scary" to you all! hahaha! I just found the resemblance to my nephew uncanny!
Have a relaxing Sunday, y'all!

Hmmmm-I love trees but certainly don't know much. I don't think it is a birch but it has that peely look like they have. I hope you figure it out b/c now I am intrigued.
Don't know. Wish I could take a leaf to the nearest nursery and ask.
I don't know, but it is pretty!
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
Do you think that you could photograph a close up of a leaf and stem? Shapes of trees can often vary so it is never wise to say something is a specific variety by the shape alone. From a distance and the way that the bark is shallow and peeling and leaf appearance it looks as though it may be part of the birch family. It would be much easier to determine if you could show a good close-up of the leaf (it makes it more difficult to be accurate as it is Autumn and to identify the leaves it is best during the Spring and Summer).
I'm guessing, a red elm maybe? Is there such a tree?
Pretty sure it's a crepe myrtle. Makes sense that it's at a rest stop, as they are quite pretty in the spring and summer and often used in southern landscaping.
I haven't a clue. I'm not good at identifying plants and trees. Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)
I wish I knew more about how to identify trees. My mom could probably tell right away. She loves to study nature.
It is pretty..but I don't know..Hope somebody will..

Well darn, I'm not sure either. Sorry I'm not more help. It is pretty. I'd be interested to know myself.
Hope your having a great weekend. :o)
I was thinking "crepe" something and it does look like a myrtle so I think SmallWorld is right. It's definitely purty!
I think it's a crepe myrtle, too!
We need to get you a tree-ID book, Barb!
